Julieta Eugenio grew up in Argentina, studied at the conservatory in Buenos Aires and completed her jazz master’s degree in New York City. Despite the fierce competition in the jazz capital of the world, her tenor saxophone playing stood out favourably. Her name had just started buzzing around when  jazz clubs had to close down two years ago.

Matt Dwonszyk, Julieta Eugenio, Jonathan Barber

Bassist Matt Dwonszyk and drummer Jonathan Barber from Connecticut invited Eugenio to come and play together in a rural setting. Their musical click resulted in the surprisingly strong recording Jump. The trio play ten pieces, eight of them were composed by Eugenio. Therefore, this debut album has become her calling card. The interplay is tight, the melodies are haunting, the improvisations sound clear, warm and yet adventurous. The open, chordless accompaniment of bass and drums give the music a wonderful tension. The duet ‘Crazy He Calls Me’ by Eugenio and Dwonszyk is a pleasantly calming gem.
